Group photos:

Due to the number of performances we have to rehearse in the daytime and the limit of 20 min rehearsal slots per school we decided a couple of years ago to not have the professional group photos. We will not be having them again this year. They take quite a bit of time organising the children in height order etc. and the lighting team have to stop while the photos are taken. I think we lose a minimum of 5 minutes for each group out of a 20 min rehearsal slot. I hope you agree the run-throughs are more valuable and of course Charlie will still be taking all the lovely rehearsal photos and filming the performances in the evening.

Shoes and props:

A reminder and info for new entrants; no shoes can have white soles including the bumpers around the edges. So even if the soles are black but the trim is white they won't be allowed on stage. This is because we have a professional black dance floor and white scuffs and other marks have to be cleaned off by hand at great expense.

You do not have to be wearing shoes for your dance but you will have to have footwear on around the Dome and backstage/in dressing rooms. Last year we introduced some buckets which children can place their shoes in at the side of the stage. We will be doing this again but ask that if your performers will be taking their shoes off, can you provide them with an elastic band or clip to hold their shoes together. As you can imagine, 80 individual shoes which all look similar can cause a bit of a problem when trying to find them after the performance.

Props – ideally dances should not include these but if they do e.g. umbrellas or sticks – they cannot have pointed ends or anything that might mark or make in impression in the dance floor. If you're not sure then please check with me. I thought I'd remind you early before you begin planning costumes and props. If you would like to do a tap number please contact me first.
