Welcome to this week's newsletter

It was an especially busy week at school  with exams, workshops, our first Year 7 trip to Dolawen and our take-over of the Dome for all things Dance. If that was not enough the students are raising money for Comic Relief today.

Dance: Last night was the final night of Let's Dance in the Dome; over four nights 79 schools and dance groups with nearly 2000 dancers took to the stage to the delight of the audiences. Dorothy Stringer School took over the organisation of the event in 2005 and since then, it has grown to be the largest celebration of school dance in the UK.  It plays a major role not only in encouraging our young people to be active but also in ensuring that dance and physical activity remains a high priority in educational establishments across the city. Katie Booth, Let's Dance Coordinator says: It is a fantastic event to be part of. It takes a lot of co-ordination, but everyone who takes part has an amazing time, and it is great to see such a broad age range getting involved. The smiling faces of all those on the stage and the exciting routines make it a memorable event for both the children and adults taking part".

Hundreds of Stringer students will perform over the next two nights in the Stringer Dance Show; it is an amazing experience and we are very proud of their hard work and commitment over the past few months not to mention the Dance Department who have worked tirelessly to choreograph and coordinate dance pieces for the 350 students.

We'd also like to thank the staff at the Dome who look after us so well over the course of the week.

Music: A group of students took part in a CeCe Sammy Vocal Workshop on Thursday.  Mrs Flint says that the students thoroughly enjoyed themselves, especially in the 2nd half of the workshop where much of the vocal training took place. A little prompting to start but we moved it on swiftly and students really began to demonstrate their talents and grow in confidence. There were some lovely performances at the end.

Drama: Massive thanks to all the Year 11s involved in the Drama GCSE external exams. It's been a long and busy week and they have behaved impeccably and been a real credit to the school.

DofE: Lots of great volunteering work is continuing to happen with the Year 10 Duke of Edinburgh students - giving up their time to help others.
