In addition to support offered by school staff, Amanda Carroll, an independent Careers Adviser, visits the school every Monday to offer impartial advice through a lunchtime drop-in and booked guidance appointments. Amanda is a qualified Careers Adviser (Post-Graduate Diploma in Careers Guidance) and member of the Careers Development Institute.
Careers Guidance appointments last 30 minutes and offer students the opportunity to explore their ideas and options for the future and develop a personalised plan of action. This can be useful for both students who are already developing career interests, but also those who have no ideas at this stage but just want to ensure they are leaving a range of options open.
Career guidance sessions can cover; college or course choice and applications, university options, apprenticeship and traineeships, gap year or volunteering, employment options, career ideas and pathways, funding for study.
Students may be referred by their form tutor or other members of school staff, their parents or carers or they can self-refer.
