Autumn term: Year 11 focus
This is an important term for our Year 11 students. During this term, and with your support, your son and daughter will have been considering their options post-16. Dorothy Stringer has been hosting visits from local colleges to help inform their decisions. Although not all students wish to attend college Post 16, we expect all our Year 11 students to make an application to college; copies of applications should be handed in to the Nexus, by Thursday 27th November 2019.
Those students seeking apprenticeships or work-based options should let our Careers Adviser know and they will be offered further support in the Spring Term. We would strongly recommend that these students apply to a college this term, giving them a back-up plan in the event that they are unable to find an employer.
Subject to meeting the entry requirements we encourage all students to apply, using the on-line Application Form, to one of the local Colleges; BHASVIC, MET College or Varndean College as they will receive an offer under the Local Offer scheme. Students are free, of course, to apply to other colleges in addition to this. Students should complete the form on the website of their first choice college. If students wish to apply to both Varndean and MET or BHASVIC and MET they should complete two applications, one at each establishment.
Careers Guidance Interviews
If your child is having difficulty deciding on their post-GCSE options, they can ask for an appointment with our independent Careers Adviser, Amanda Carroll. Amanda is in school every Monday during term-time. Students can explore post-16 options or career ideas, link subject choices to potential career pathways, or simply check they are keeping their future options open.
Students from all year groups are welcome to ask for an interview, but should be aware that Year 11 students are given priority during the autumn term. See or email Ms. Emerson to book an appointment EMR@dororthy-stringer.co.uk.
Students can drop into L3 every Monday lunchtime.
