Religious Studies and Citizenship at Stringer
Religious Studies is taught throughout the school in accordance with the Brighton & Hove Agreed Syllabus. This takes full account of the Christian tradition and also includes studies of other major world religions. In Years 10 and 11 all students follow the Short Course GCSE using the EDEXCEL Syllabus on Religion and Society. In an exciting curriculum development an Advanced Subsidiary GCE (AS Level) in Religious Studies, studying the Philosophy of Religion and Ethics, is also offered to students who wish to take it in Years 10 and 11. This has been a huge success; the course has been running now for 10 years and an incredible 353 students have taken the course. 46% of these students have achieved A and B grades in this course designed for Sixth Formers. In 2011, 92% passed the AS course. The Religious Studies department is very proud of our history of excellent exam results. In 2011, 77% of students achieved A*-C in the GCSE exam. Three years ago (June 2008), EdExcel wrote to us regarding the GCSE RS Short Course results for six of our students. These students' RS GCSE results were all in the top 10 in the UK, out of 95,000 students nationwide. This is obviously an amazing accolade for all of the students and us in the RS department.Parents who are at all concerned about the content of the Religious Studies Syllabus are invited to discuss the matter with the Headteacher.
