| Exam | Section A: one question, from a choice of two, on the poetry cluster they have studied.
Section B: one compulsory question on an unseen poem. | Section A: pupils study a thematic cluster of 15 poems; some poems are contemporary, some from the English, Welsh or Irish Literary Heritage. In a 45 minute essay style question, pupils will be expected to make comparisons across poems and to respond to ideas, themes and issues; form, structure and language.
Section B: in 30 minutes, pupils are expected to respond to an unseen poem and write about key features such as content, theme, structure, rhyme, rhythm and use of language. From 2015 pupils will be required to study at least one poem from a selection of named poets, both contemporary and literary heritage, and the unseen poem will be from the work of one of these poets. | Poetry Across Time |
